In this project, my team of five was given a random recipe in video form, specifically for making sourdough. The challenge was to create an app that helps people, particularly those aged 50 and above, follow the recipe with ease. We focused on making the app user-friendly, ensuring that it was accessible and intuitive for our target audience. The app includes features like step-by-step instructions, clear visuals, and the ability to pause or replay each step. Our goal was to make the cooking process enjoyable and straightforward, allowing users to confidently prepare the sourdough recipe from start to finish.
Process
We started the project by conducting desk research, looking into existing apps that catered to a similar target audience, specifically those aged 50 and above. We focused on understanding their needs and preferences to ensure our app would be user-friendly and accessible. This research helped us identify the most important features to include, such as simplicity in navigation and clear visual elements.
After gathering insights, we began creating wireframes for the app. These wireframes served as a blueprint for the layout and flow of the app. We then presented our designs to peers for feedback, which helped us refine and improve the user interface. Through this iterative process of testing and feedback, we were able to finalize a design that met the needs of our target audience while being both functional and visually appealing.
Reflection
This project was the first team-based assignment I had during my studies, and it quickly became apparent that there was a difference in ambition between me and some of my teammates. During our team check-ins, a few of them mentioned feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work I was putting into the project. There were instances where I had completed most of the tasks before they even had a chance to review the assignment. While my intention was never to overshadow anyone, I realized that this caused some of my teammates to feel disheartened and demotivated.
From this experience, I learned the importance of treating each teammate equally and fostering an open, collaborative environment where everyone feels encouraged to learn and contribute. I now prioritize ensuring that everyone has a chance to engage with the project and bring their unique strengths to the table, creating a more balanced and supportive team dynamic.
